Charles Delbert Day

Charles Delbert Day passed away on January 6th surrounded by his loving family. Chuck was born on January 11, 1935 in Casper, Wyoming. He moved to this area when he was three. He was the oldest child of Thomas E. Day and Marjorie L. Day (Alexander). He had eight brothers and sisters, David, Sharon, Dennis, Bruce, Patrick, Shirley, James and Jon. He married Patricia Pitsch in 1955 and was blessed with four children—Kristina DayVincent (Mark) of Friday Harbor, Kathryn Day (Mark Santosuosso) of Sumas, and Thomas Day (SunanthaTangsuwan) and Margaret Day of Bellingham. He has five grandchildren—Joseph Benson, Sarah Day, Towner Goodman, Jack Santosuosso and Maxwell Day. He also leaves behind many dear friends and a loving extended family.

In earlier times Chuck was a proud member of the Ironworkers Union along with his father and brothers Davey and Denny. He worked as a custodian at Assumption school. Later he had the cool job of refrigeration engineer at the Bellingham Ice Arena where he was known for his slick Zamboni driving skills. He spent the last twenty-five years of his work career at the physical plant at WWU. When Chuck retired from WWU in 2001, he happily devoted many hours perfecting his golf game and strengthening ties with his family.

His parents and his brother David preceded him in death. With any luck he and Davey are up in heaven, swinging golf clubs and keeping cursing to a minimum.

A service celebrating his life will be held at the clubhouse at Lakeway Mobile Estates, 1200 Lincoln St on Saturday, January 12th at 12:00. The family would like to thank St. Joseph’s Hospital and Whatcom Hospice for loving care he received from them. Donations in his memory can be made to Whatcom Hospice Foundation at 2901Squalicum Parkway, Bellingham, WA 98225 or Lighthouse Mission Ministries, PO Box 548, Bellingham, WA 98227.
