Butch Lukes (Darrell Leroy Lukes) age 80, passed away in his home peacefully on Sunday October 19th, 2025 at South Lake Whatcom. His family moved to Bellingham from South Dakota in 1936 and Butch was born at St. Joseph Medical Center on South Forest Street on June 29, 1945. All of his children and grandchildren have been born at St. Joseph Medical Center

Butch worked as a shipwright for 13 years before becoming a building contractor until he retired in 2005. He was so creative, he drew his own house plans and he could paint and build or fix anything! His proudest accomplishment was building his dream home with help of his children and friends and family. He was a history buff and religiously followed the news and politics. Seahawks, Huskies, Mariners!!

He is survived by his wife Linda of almost fifty years of marriage; her supportive sister Marcia Valentic; his loving brother Ron (Charlene) Lukes and kids; sister Beverly Glick and family; his three kids; daughter Heather; sons Britton (Tina) and Kyle (Jessica); grandchildren Katie Whalen, Emma, Sarah, and Cole Lukes, Kaija Pullman, Paxton, Waverly, Sam Lukes and great granddaughter Scarlett Rose Malone.

Butch was blessed with very special lifelong friends, devoted family and much love.

Please join the Lukes family for a celebration of Butch's life on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the family home. Located on the south end of Lake Whatcom at 815 Iowa Heights road, Sedro-Woolley WA.  The family has asked that in lieu of flowers or gifts, please donate to your favorite charity.
