Budd D Askew

Budd Askew, age 67, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2025, from complications of aortic stenosis. Budd was born on May 21, 1958 in Seattle, WA to parents Edson (Bud) and Beverly Askew. He grew up in Kenmore, Washington, the fourth of five children, and graduated from Inglemoor High School.

Budd had a love for horticulture and a gift for landscaping, and he worked in that field for most of his adult life, doing everything from designing and landscaping commercial and residential properties to running his own small nursery, and later ended up at VanWingerden Greenhouses, where he worked for many years as a grower.

When he wasn’t working, Budd together with his wife Irene, liked to travel the world and see new places, with notable trips including those to the Philippines, Paris and Dubai. Budd also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and especially loved being at Decatur Island in the San Juans and “kicking back by the pond,” in his own little haven at his property in Custer.

Budd is preceded in death by his parents Bud and Beverly Askew, brother Mick Askew, sister-in-law Kathy Askew, father-in-law Gerardo Mesa, and mother-in-law Rosalinda Mesa.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years Irene (Mesa) Askew; children Natalie (Justin) Aase and Nicholas (Kayla) Askew; grandchildren Elijah (Chloe) Aase, Jonah Aase, Benjamin Aase, Viola Aase, June Askew, Reid Askew; siblings Sandy (Bill) Ekse, Bob (Kathy) Askew, Ron (Vicki) Askew, brother-in-law Chris Mesa; sisters-in-law Marissa (Rod) Sanchez and Sheila (Jeffrey) Lapitan; and many other family members.

A Memorial Celebration of Budd’s life will be held at The Lighthouse Christian Church 15353 92 Ave. Surrey, BC Canada V3R1C3 on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 5pm.
