Barbara Joanne Burtner

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Barbara Joanne Burtner (St.Clair), who left this world peacefully at her home in Custer, Washington, on July 8, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on August 8, 1948, in Bellingham, Washington, Barbara lived a life of good times and made numerous friends along the way. Barb was the daughter of Robert M. StClair and Meryle "Pete" St.Clair, both of whom predeceased her, along with her brother Robert "Butch" St.Clair Jr. and beloved Grandson Anthony R. Christie. Though she faced the trials of losing family members, she remained a beacon of strength and resilience for those around her. In 1965, Barb married Gary Christie, and together they welcomed four children into the world: Darryl Christie, Wendy Briones, Trina Christie, and Ryan Christie. Her love for her children was always there even if she couldn’t be and continued on with her Grandchildren: Nicole Simons, Shawna Blackbriar, Kody Scarpete (Joe), Kyley Trecker, Aaron Briones Jr, Caleb Briones, Baylee Christie, Mckenna Christie, Shelby Christie, Taylor Christie and 7 Great Grandchildren. Barb later found companionship and love of her life partner of the past 20 years, Joe Endersby, who stood by her side with unwavering support over the last two decades even affectionately giving her the nickname “The battle axe” which she didn’t seem to mind. Barb wore many hats, she tended bar at several local watering holes, where her warm spirit and kindness left lasting impressions on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She worked as a Dryer Operator at Absorption Corporation and most recently at Silver Reef Casino before retiring. She was a member of the VFW Bowling Team and the Moose Lodge; Barb thrived in community life. She was passionate about sports and enjoyed participating in league bowling, dart leagues, and competitive corn hole. Trips to the casino with family and friends were cherished moments, full of laughter and fun. Barb was not a fancy woman; she found contentment in the simple pleasures of life. Her love for family and friends was the cornerstone of her existence. Known for her stubbornness, she approached life with a fierce determination that endeared her to many. Life wasn’t always easy for her but she always found a way to come out the other side a little bit smarter and stronger. Mom loved the month of August because that meant Custer Days and her birthday, which coincided around the same time. There was always a grand party filled with good friends and good memories to celebrate both occasions. Barb’s legacy lives on in her surviving children, her life partner Joe, and the countless friends and family members whose lives she touched. She will be remembered for her warmth, her laughter, and the unconditional love she so freely gave to all. Mom will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
