Barbara Benedict breathed her last breath in this life and joyfully stepped into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 13, 2025. As she suffered the effects of aging she often spoke longingly of this moment. We as her family and friends grieve her passing, but we rejoice with her knowing she is in heaven with Jesus and with those she loved who went before her.
Barbara was born on June 10, 1930, in Bellingham, Washington to Belford Hindman and Stella Hindman (Atkinson). After graduating from Bellingham High School in 1948, she attended Simpson Bible Institute in Seattle, Washington, where she met and fell in love with her soon to be husband David Benedict. They were married on June 8, 1951. Soon after their marriage, David joined the Air Force and for the next twenty years Barbara and David as a military family moved several times. During these years Barbara kept busy raising their three daughters. She loved being a mother and had many fun times with them. She faithfully taught each of her daughters about God and going to church was a big part of their lives. She was active in children's ministries at church and loved singing in the choir. Barbara learned to drive a school bus and for many years drove children to and from school. When David retired from the Air Force, they moved back to the Northwest where she continued driving school bus and eventually retired from the Bellingham School District. She always had a great love for Israel and during her retirement years visited there several times.
Barbara is survived by her three devoted daughters Colleen Partlow and her husband Allen, Kim McKinney and Sheryl Benedict. Her five grandchildren Meghan Zoto and her husband Loreano, Amy Jones and her husband Brett, Kaitlyn Colby and her husband Josh, Justin McKinney and his wife Amy, and Marc McKinney and his wife Sondra will miss her prayers for them. Her seven great-grandchildren Hope Fey, Jared Micheal Fey Jr., Emma Colby, Isabella Zoto, James Colby, Roxy, Teagan McKinney and Stanley McKinney, as well as her great-great-granddaughter Daisy will all feel the effects of her prayers throughout their lives. She is preceded in death by her husband David Benedict, her sister Betty Bachert, her brothers Don Hindman and Glenn Hindman, and her son-in-law Stanley McKinney. Barbara had a deep faith in God. She loved reading the Bible and always encouraged her family to trust God's Word. She loved her family and prayed for each one daily by name. Every one of them felt her love and prayers. We will miss her but are thankful she is with Jesus and will see her again in heaven.
