Anne Rebecca Sowles

Anne R. Sowles, age 81, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017 in Bellingham. Her biography as told in her own words:  "She led a secret life. She worked but nobody knows where. She raised 2 girls. Couldn't stand the in-laws. She left with the two girls and raised them on her own. If the girls didn't behave she threatened to send them to the orphanage. She was born in Montana on November 30, 1935 to Lawrence E. and Naida Fern (Sargent) Sheldon but only lived there a week. Her parents went to Montana because there was a hospital there. There wasn't any in Wyoming. When she was ten, the family moved to Portland, Oregon. When she walked into the 5th grade, she was the only one with long curls. She was embarrassed. Anne graduated from Gresham Union High School, Portland, OR  in 1954. Anne was a born cat lover.  Her  hobbies were painting, art work, embroidery, and reading. Especially English authors. Her favorite author was Taylor Caldwell. She liked to cook holiday meals. She and her  Mother would would sit down on the davenport and plan out the meal every year.  They cooked the same thing each and every holiday.  She says she was a pretty good writer. But math was a dread. Hated math. But good at crossword puzzles." Anne was dearly loved by many cats, friends and family.  As an Executive Secretary she worked for Multnomah Dental Society in Portland, Oregon and Vocation Rehabilitation for the State of Oregon. Anne is survived by her two daughters, Betsy Partridge (Henry), Nancy Bjerke (Jim), and 4 grandchildren, Gabriel, Grace, Alex and Rob and other relatives.  A graveside service is planned for 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Ten Mile Cemetery, Lynden with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating followed by an open house at 12:00 at Sig's Funeral Service, 809 W. Orchard Drive, Suite 2, Bellingham, WA 98225. The family thanks the many friends, professionals, cabbies and Pat and Laurita for their care of Anne. Also, Shuksan Healthcare and Mt. Baker Kidney Center. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Whatcom Humane Society.
