Lois Lee Nelson, age 89, was born June 29, 1930 to Cecil and Dorothy (Ferguson) Goheen, she was an only child. Lois passed away Friday, November 8, 2019 in Bellingham. She is survived by her husband, Nick Nelson, who was the love of his life for 36 years. Lois was the Mother of 8 children, Trudy (Robert) Hofmann, Penny Hughes, Linda (Garry) Swendt, Robert (Esther) Benson, Sharon (Kai) Coble, Randall Benson, Michael Benson (deceased), Mark (Andi) Manos. Lois has 18 Grandchildren, 13 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-Great -grandchild.
Mom was an avid gardener, canner and seamstress. These skills she passed on to her children. She was well known for her pies. They were coveted by all of us and growing up there was always desert after dinner. She loved the music of Elvis, Trini Lopez and Johnny Rivers. She had many occupations including Real Estate Sales, Taxi driver/owner, worked at GP, and her last endeavor was an Apple Orchard Farmer. Later in life mom had a difficult time staying in one place. She moved many times and lived in the following cities, Bellingham, Ferndale, Tonasket, Oroville WA., Gold Hill, Rogue River and Central Point, Oregon, Columbia Falls, Montana then back to Bellingham.
After developing Altzhimers 5 years ago, she began to slowly slip away from us. Mom died peacefully in her sleep at The Bellingham at Orchard Place with her 4 daughters at her side.
Our mother was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She believed in God's promise of a resurrection to a paradise earth. That was only one of the things she looked forward to. She learned from God's word that his will is that "everyone who recognizes his son and exercises faith in him should have everlasting life". (John 6:40, Revelation 21:3-4, 1 Corinthians 15:26)
Life, like a mist, appears for just a day, then disappears tomorrow. All that we are can quickly fade away. Replaced with tears and sorrow. "If a man should die, can he live again"? Hear the promise God has made: He will call; The dead will answer. They shall live at his command. For he will have a longing for the work of his own hand. So have faith, and do not wander, for our God can make us stand. And we shall live forever, at the work of his own hand. (James 4:14, Job 14:13-15)
We will love you forever Mom!
Remembrance to be held at a later date.
